Subject to Change

I love good subject lines.

This past week I signed up for mail order prescriptions through my health insurance. The process was as painful as you can imagine when using legacy systems with slapdash web interfaces, but I was able to send out a refill request.

My pharmacy sent me an email confirmation of my order later that day. The email’s subject was, “Order confirmation from your pharmacy online!” Can you spot what’s wrong with this subject? That’s right: it reads like one of the gazillions of spam subject lines I get every day. And since it’s not spam, Gmail’s spam filter has apparently been confused and is now letting a few spams through to my inbox.

So thanks, MedCo, for taking no time to consider this design decision.
